Hello – I’m Jess,
The Hiker’s Nutritionist
I’m the one obsessed with food, health, and moving forward in the outdoors.

My Path to Nutrition
Hiking and nutrition have been inseparable for me ever since I laced up my boots for Everest Base Camp in 2017 and quickly learned that what you eat (or don’t eat) can make or break an adventure.
Since then, I’ve trekked through Sweden on a solo 120km journey, and hiked many overnight to week-long trails while testing every kind of trail fuel imaginable.
If I wouldn’t eat it on the trail, I won’t recommend it.
My Expertise
Aside from my Bachelor of Food Science in Food and Nutrition, I’ve spent years reading about, reviewing, and consulting on outdoor food products as The Hiker’s Nutritionist.
My passion is helping adventurers fuel their bodies for performance, endurance, and pure enjoyment—whether that means optimising your trail meals, navigating dietary restrictions, or finding ultra-light, nutrient-dense options for multi-day expeditions.
My Mission
To make sure your food intake supports, rather than compromises your adventures.
Food is fuel, and unfortunately, most of us simply aren’t eating enough to support our bodies through tough challenges – I want to change that.
When I’m not developing supplements with Optiventure, reviewing hiking snacks, or coaching hikers on trail nutrition, you’ll find me contributing to the outdoor community at We Are Explorers.
My Qualifications
Bachelor of Science (Food & Nutrition)
Diploma of Food Science
Certificate IV Nutrition
Certificate Three in Fitness
Performance Nutrition Coach Level One
If you want to be a deep-diving internet sleuth, I’ll save you some time – here’s a link to my hiking history, which is updated regularly with my recent adventures on the trail. You can also find me writing articles and editing content with the team at We Are Explorers.

What I Value
- Honesty – If I don’t know something, I’ll tell you, then find the answer so your problem gets solved.
- Evidence – Your food choices should be backed by science, not marketing hype.
- Integrity – I only recommend brands and products that I believe in.
- Practical – Nutrition needs to work in the real world (and on real trails).
- Experience – I test everything myself so I can be sure of the advice I give to others.
- Flavour – It doesn’t matter how nutritious a food is, it’s useless if it tastes awful and you don’t eat it.
